Prison Fellowship Services (PFS) Care Club
PFS Care Club aims to counsel, nurture, and coach children and youth of different backgrounds, races, and ethnicities. These children and youth come from families of which at least 1 family member (usually a parent):
->was incarcerated
->has been incarcerated
->is currently incarcerated
->is going to be incarcerated
PFS’ Mini Kidzania
Our project was targeted at helping the children of inmates develop a sense of direction and purpose with regards to their own lives and what they could do with it despite the social economic or familial background they had.
Therefore, our group took inspiration from KidZania, the local children’s learning centre that caters to introducing different career paths and occupations, and came up with our own version of it.
On the event day, the children were divided into six teams and were led in a rotation to visit each of the six learning centres that were set up (i.e. healthcare, food and beverage, teaching, science and engineering, the arts, business and finance).
Our team taught the children about the different occupations and guided them in completing the related activities at each booth.
At the end of the rotations, we conducted a short reflection where the children penned down or drew their favourite activities for the day and their dreams for their future.
At the end of the whole project, our team received positive feedbacks from PFS’ representatives and they even mentioned that they may be replicating the program for future batches of children in the Care Club.
